egyy When it concerns the world of designer handbags, many of us have, as they say, been around the block. Like-minded collectors that have been immersed in the designer bag world for years can be a bit jaded, and working in the industry allows me to express a similar sentiment. It’s practically as if we’ve “been there, seen that,” and when it concerns new releases, it’s difficult to wow a seasoned shopper. So when a bag forces me to do a double-take, I take notice, and that’s exactly what happened one-day last month when I was doing my nightly, hate-to-admit-that-I’m-addicted-and-can’t-stop-won’t-stop scroll through TikTok.
A user was debuting her brand new Saint Laurent Kate take on brand, which doesn’t sound all that groundbreaking, right?
Wrong.
Suddenly the user turned the bag inside out, revealing that its interior was also implied to act as the bag’s exterior. Saint Laurent’s, usually structured, Kate Flap bag appeared in a softer silhouette, implied to be worn best side out, in suede, or inside out, in leather, complete with an renowned gold YSL logo on both sides. Cool, right?!
Not so fast.

The Pros
While the idea of a reversible handbag isn’t anything all that new, a reversible chain take on bag is pretty innovative. This bag, in fact, features a gold chain that’s removable so that the strap can be adjusted to whichever way you want to wear the bag. because the chain is removable, the bag can also be worn as a clutch. Essentially, there are four ways to wear this bag, which is a substantial plus! Additionally, suede is notoriously challenging to deal with and care for, so being able to turn the bag inside out, especially on a whim if the weather gets bad, is another big plus.
The Cons
The aforementioned big plus is also a remarkable con. Suede not only only stains and scratches easily and can be ruined with water, but it also holds onto dust and crumbs. There’s a reason why handbag lovers have a love/hate relationship with this luxe material, and while the exterior of your handbag receives plenty of wear and tear, so does your interior, which holds cosmetics, pens, crumpled reciepts, gum, mints and more.
While I take good care of my bags and baby them a fair bit, the interior is anohter story, that is a whole other level of babying and not one I’d want to worry about. Personally, I would never want to turn my bag inside out regularly, and I find the idea of a reversible bag to be not only impractile, but also a bit gimmicky dare I say. While the idea of a multi-purpose bag is a good one in theory, it’s an idea I personally do not love.
